The research group of the Department of Organic Chemistry, Lviv Polytechnic National University, has launched the production of Aquior hydrogel dressings, which accelerate the healing of wounds of various types of origin.

The hydrogel dressings «Aquior» have increased strength, sufficient adhesion to the epithelium, allows the introduction of medicine based on the individual characteristics of patients, which reduces the duration of treatment by 2–3 times and increases its effectiveness. The hydrogel dressings «Aquior» have passed state certification in Ukraine. One of their advantages is the production on the basis of natural raw materials, which makes it possible to avoid various irritations or allergic reactions. At the same time, bandages are biodegradable, which meets the challenges of European green policy.

Hydrogel dressings are designed to bandage burns, trophic ulcers, bedsores and other wounds where a moist environment is needed. They are used as a local anesthetic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, wound healing and hemostatic agent.

With the escalation of hostilities in Eastern and Central Ukraine, many people with burns and injuries of varying severity get to frontline hospitals. Thus, the need for medicine has increased. In Lviv, such health care facilities are supported by activists of the public organization «Volunteer Hundred of Lviv» by collecting the necessary and transporting it to the settlements where hostilities are taking place.

The hydrogel dressings «Aquior» were also transferred to the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Western Region in Lviv. Evacuation trains and helicopters deliver injured Ukrainian defenders from various hospitals across the country to this military hospital. Military medics use hydrogel bandages in stationary conditions and in rehabilitation departments located in the Lviv region.

Many hydrogel bandages were also transferred to the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Main Military Clinical Hospital was the first to receive them. Doctors and patients were satisfied with the use and recommended them to the medical services of individual military units. With the help of the public initiative Ukraine: Direct Support, paramedics who work with the injured throughout the Kyiv region also received these bandages.

The hydrogel dressings «Aquior» are gradually being sent to medical units of military units. Heads of medical services are asking to hand over bandages to their structural units.

The production of hydrogel bandages at Lviv Polytechnic is gaining momentum and development. There is a need for raw materials, scaling of technological processes, finding ways to automate production and optimize human resources – this is what a group of chemists is working on. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone for their support and assistance in expanding the production of the hydrogel dressings «Aquior».
